Early childhood education supports the child\u2019s growth, development and learning, and makes it possible for the parents to work or study full-time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Early childhood education can be applied for in Swedish as well as in Finnish. Scroll down to find information on how to apply for daycare in the different municipalities. If you have any issues with the process please contact the Swedish daycare centre you are applying for, or the municipality, for more information on how to ensure your child a place. The Swedish daycare centre does not include Finnish in the curriculum, as the children will start learning Finnish later on at school. The children, however, may use Finnish in the playground, as many Finnish children in Swedish daycare come from bilingual families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Options include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>municipal daycare centre or family daycare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>private daycare centre or family daycare (financial support available)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a childminder employed by the parents (financial support available)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a parent has the right to stay at home with their child and take leave from their job until the child is three years old (financial support available)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>How to apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Early childhood education can be applied all year round. Municipal early childhood education must be applied for four months before the need for a place. Urgent care because of employment or studies can be applied for at the latest two weeks before the need. The municipality is obliged to provide a place for a child, but it may be further away than the preferred option. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hel.fi\/en\/childhood-and-education\/early-childhood-education\/applying-for-early-childhood-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">electronic application&nbsp;<\/a> that must be sent through <a href=\"https:\/\/asti.hel.fi\/#\/landing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asti.fi<\/a> four months prior to the need for care.
