Adult Education Centers

The adult education centers are designed to prevent exclusion and offer educational activities that everyone can participate in. These centers focus on self-motivated learning and, as a rule, do not aim to offer formal qualifications. Adult education centers can be found in all four municipalities of the Capital Region, with Helsingfors, Esbo, and Vanda using ilmonet.fi for course information and enrollment, and Grankulla using opistopalvelut.fi for the same purpose. Courses offered include arts and crafts, languages, exercise, cooking and more.

A great way to practice Swedish is by finding a course that interests you, ceramics, for example. Not only will you be doing something you enjoy, but you’ll also be able to practice your Swedish in a fun and interactive setting.

These are the Swedish speaking Adult Education Centers in the Capital Region:

Svenska Arbetarinstitutet, Arbis i Helsingfors, maintained by the City of Helsinki and the country’s largest Swedish-language adult education center, also features a café, a library, and a gallery.

Det svenska arbetarinstitutet Esbo Arbis offers opportunities for personal development and engaging courses. Studying at Arbis is above all useful, enjoyable and educational.

Grankulla Medborgarinstitut arranges education in various subjects with the goal of creating active and tolerant citizens. The center is a competitive, bilingual, progressive and versatile institution.

Vanda vuxenutbildningsinstitut, Vantaa Adult Education Institute, while mostly offering classes in Finnish, does offer some classes in Swedish, which can be found by searching for courses with “Swedish” as the teaching language on ilmonet.fi.
