Is it possible to integrate through Swedish?
Yes, absolutely. In Finland, you get to choose how you integrate. Swedish has been part of Finnish society for centuries and is fully supported by law. Whether during orientation, when creating your integration plan, or through further education, the choice is yours, and municipalities are required to make that choice possible.
Swedish is an official language in Finland, and you have the legal right to choose it as your path to integration at every stage of the process.
What does the law say about Swedish-language integration?
According to the Finnish Integration Act (Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration), Finnish law gives you the right to integrate through Swedish.
- If you have an integration plan and will take an integration course, you have the right to choose Swedish or Finnish.
- If you are applying for Finnish citizenship or permanent residence, you can take the YKI exam in either Swedish or Finnish.
