How important is civil society really for ensuring a just and effective integration? If you could not attend our conference, here is a spoiler: it’s indispensable!

The Potential of Civil Society in Migrant Labour Market Integration

On the 7th of May, Luckan hosted a hybrid cross-sectoral conference together with KVINFO (Denmark) and Sammen om en jobb (Norway), titled ‘The Potential of Civil Society in Migrant Labour Market Integration’.  Thank you to everyone who participated in Finland, online, or in other countries!

During the conference we heard keynote speaker Helle Hygum Espersen (chief research analyst at VIVE – The Danish Center for Social Science Research) talk about the history and current challenges facing civil society in the Nordics. After that, Cheralyn Mealor presented the results of the three organisations’ comparative research project about mentoring as a crucial tool for two-way integration.

In the final part of the conference, representatives from public, private, and third sector organisations in the integrattion field workshopped around the challenges and possibilities for collaboration. The results of the workshop will be compiled into an experience catalogue to be published within the next couple of months. So far, our Nordic collaborative project has already produced recommendations for how we can come together to support integration through tools like mentoring – a voluntary, equal and effective practice with a much needed personal touch.

Stay tuned for reading the experience catalogue!

The conference, report, and experience catalogue are all part of the project ‘Kvinder i Job’ (2023-24), financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

PS. Check out the below image from when the ‘Kvinder i Job’ team visited the 2024 European Mentoring Summit in Paris! There we were selected to host a workshop around our findings. The occasion was another chance to practice international collaboration for social change!
