Internship at Luckan: Meet Linn Sjödahl, a student of Swedish School of Social Science at the University of Helsinki

Published

For about a month, I have had the opportunity to take part in Luckan Integration’s activities through an internship course as part of my Social Work studies at the Swedish School of Social Science at the University of Helsinki. I have met Luckan Integration’s clients through guidance consultations, events, and social gatherings. This let me gain several valuable insights. This blog post is therefore a reflective text written from the perspective of a first‑year social work student.

Third‑sector activities are often based on empowerment‑focused and client‑centered social work—in other words, work that aims to strengthen the individual, in this case the client.

Arranging individual guidance consultations, social and professional mentoring and networking programs, workshops, and social gatherings, Luckan Integration consistently acts in a client‑centered manner in every interaction. I have observed how exactly the work supports clients in finding balance and stability in their lives through calm, safe, and encouraging encounters. It is almost a form of representation: offering support while trusting that the client is capable of acting in their own best interest.

Luckan Integration coordinators provide clients with practical tools and work with a solutions‑focused approach, addressing specific challenges in people’s lives, for example helping find employment, access education, or receive guidance in handling general administrative documents. They recognise each person’s unique life situation and demonstrate an impressive ability to adapt to individual needs.

I will definitely carry these valuable experiences with me into my future professional role.
